Project with SRG Partnership | The role of public libraries has evolved in recent years. Along with rapidly expanding collections, the new two-story building has spaces for community events, growing media and multilingual collections as well as an espresso bar. The carefully detailed brick and curtain wall maintains harmony with existing city structures while exposed fir decking provides warmth. The 48,000 sf library is located alongside the wetlands of Fanno Creek and is sited to maximize views and light. A raised roof monitor provides daylighting and facilitates displacement ventilation along with mechanicals artfully concealed in the shelving. Photos by Sally Schoolmaster, courtesy of SRG
