Visualizations I prepared for a local contractor to demonstrate a side-by-side comparison of three different construction strategies and show the contractor’s expertise in managing a high-density mixed-use multi-family project and to help the client evaluate and quickly make an informed decision about the approach. In addition to a time-lapse animation, I created graphic diagrams to demonstrate construction techniques that otherwise may have not been understood.
The client has a large extended family and wanted a beach retreat large enough for everyone to stay. The design challenge was to make it feel cozy – both from a spatial and ecological standpoint for times the client would visit with his immediate family. Built in the early 70’s, the original 61-unit housing complex was planned with the auto in mind at the expense of livability. The driving aisles were wide and parking was situated directly outside of the front doors of the living units. Trash collection was right in the heart of the complex, and the sole common space was sparse and uninviting.
